Tours of Nativity B. V. M. Church Lorain as Part of Ohio History Connection’s Ohio Open Doors

On Sunday, September 20 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., come tour the oldest Catholic church building still in use in the city of Lorain. Built in 1915 and designed by noted Akron architect William P. Ginther, the Neo-Gothic landmark edifice features soaring arches, beautiful American opalescent stained-glass windows, and carved wooden altars. Guides will be present to answer questions. At 3:00, if you wish to descend a few steps to the rectory basement, there will be a presentation entitled, “People of Vision Create a Vision of Heaven,” describing key individuals and details in the construction of the church. Additional historic artifacts can be viewed after the presentation.

This event is part of the Ohio History Connection’s Ohio Open Doors, and is free and open to all people. The church is located at 418 West 15th Street, Lorain. Ample parking is available adjacent to the church in the lot off 14th Street. Handicapped parking and a ramp to the church are accessed via a driveway just west of the rectory, off 15th Street.
