Pilgrimage to Spain and Lourdes

April 28, 2027May 10, 2027

Join Fr. Michael on a pilgrimage to the sacred site of Spain next spring, April 28 – May 10, 2027!

Our journey will begin in Santiago de Compestela where we will visit the Cathedral of St. James where the apostle, the son of Zebede, is buried. Our time here will allow us to see pilgrims making the famous El Camino and even allow us to walk a short portion with them. We will also visit the Basilica del Pilar on the site of the world’s first known Marian apparition where our Blessed Mother appeared to St. James.

The rich Catholic history of Spain includes many sites associated with both Carmelite and Ignatian spirituality, and we will see many important locations associated with St. Teresa of Avilia, St. John of the Cross, and St. Ignatius of Loyola, including: the place where St. Teresa died, the confessional of St. John of the Cross, the room where St. Ignatius experienced his conversion while convalescing from serious injuries received in war, and the cave where he retreated to develop his Spiritual Exercises. These sites will be deeply meaningful to those who are drawn to Carmelite or Ignatian spirituality.

We will move along to the famous Benedictine monastery of Montserrat to see the famous statue of the Black Madonna, said to have been carved by St. Luke. As well, we will visit Barcelona and the famous cathedral of Sagrada Familia, the tallest church in the world, which took more than a century to complete.

Our journey will immerse us in the beauty of Spain as we travel the country by bus. The pilgrimage will conclude with two relaxing days in Lourdes, France where we can reflect on all that we have experienced in the peace of this holy place where the Blessed Virgin–the Immaculate Conception–apeared to St. Bernadette.
